UCC Filings - General Information
The Secretary of State’s Office is responsible for the filing of UCC Article 9 Secured Transactions. The Uniform Commercial Code is a set of uniform laws governing commercial transactions. The Code covers the sale of goods, commercial paper, bank deposits and collections, letters of credit, bulk transfers, warehouse receipts, bills of lading and investment securities.

You can use our online UCC search or call the UCC Filings Division at (803) 734-2158 to search for UCC filings by debtor and secured parties. Debtor and secured party names and addresses, dates of filings and types of filings are all available. Images of filed documents are not yet available online. You will still need to contact our office to request copies of a filed document.
General Filing Instructions
- Type or legibly print in dark ink the applicable UCC form in its entirety. All forms are fillable, therefore you may type directly onto the pdf form or you may download and print the form. All of the Secretary of State’s Forms may be found on the Forms and Fees page.
- Submit the proper form with the required fee. A separate form should be submitted for each UCC transaction.
- Include a self-addressed, stamped envelope.
