Secretary Hammond Certifies South Carolina's Electoral Votes for President and Vice President

COLUMBIA -- Secretary of State Mark Hammond convened the 2008 Electoral College Monday, December 15, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. in Columbia. Unanimously casting their votes for Presidential nominee Senator John McCain of Arizona, and Vice Presidential nominee Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska were:
Katon E. Dawson, At-large;
Patrick Bonner Haddon, At-large;
Wayland Moody, 1st Congressional District;
Benny Kinlaw, 2nd Congressional District;
Susan Aiken, 3rd Congressional District;
Betty Sheppard Poe, 4th Congressional District;
Rebecca W. Delleney, 5th Congressional District; and
Shelby Phillips, 6th Congressional District.

“We live in a great democracy and it is an honor to certify the electoral votes that will be tabulated in Washington, D.C that will officially elect our next President and Vice President of the United States,” said Mark Hammond, Secretary of State.

Katon Dawson was elected President of the Electoral College, and Rebecca Delleney was elected Secretary.

South Carolina Educational Television (ETV) provided coverage of the meeting, and will offer streaming video of the Electoral College for one week on their Website at myetv.org. The video will also be made available to all South Carolina teachers via ETV, sponsored by the South Carolina Department of Education. The video will be shown on State House Today during the 2009 South Carolina Legislative session.
